12: Pastor and Professor – Rethinking Advent 1

This episode focuses on our current thoughts on Jesus’s first coming and on Jesus’s purported second coming. We discuss the gospel writers’ attempts to connect Jesus to the Old Testament. We also discuss the connection between Jesus’s life and ministry and the promise that Jesus will return. What are we to think about the significant delay in the return of Jesus? Is Jesus really coming back?

Josh…so good to hear your thoughts along with your father. You both address issues many of us have thought on for years. I look forward to the next podcast on reconstruction of how to look at Advent.

Prof. Vis, at 28 minutes or so into this podcast, you question whether a Jewish person would accept the case for the prophetic connecting and predicting the presence of Jesus as Messiah, as promised. You agree Jews wouldn’t. Not so, sir – at least not always. I am Jewish, and believe Jesus is my savior, as promised. I am not alone in this. Regards.

Thanks for this, Henry. I acknowledge that you are a counterexample to our premise. However, in terms of numbers, I’d say you and other Jewish Christians are the exception that proves the rule. Perhaps you would know better than I would, but I also do not see any major shift in the Jewish community; that is, Jews around the world are largely remaining within Judaism.
