This is the first of many episodes I intend to have with my father, Marlin Vis. As my father notes in the episode, we have been having these conversations for decades. This particular conversation begins as a discussion about advent, and in particular, about the validity of the claim (a claim often articulated during advent) that Jesus as the messiah is predicted in a number of texts of the Old Testament. We do talk about this claim a good deal, but as you will see, we venture into a more wide-ranging conversation. We discuss our views on the Bible and our struggles with the Bible. In part, this is plea for a more honest conversation in the church about the Bible. This is a frank and unorthodox conversation between the pastor, Marlin, and the professor, me.
